CN Rail Line for Sale

The Kinghorn, a 313-kilometre line which stretches from Thunder Bay to Longlac, is owned by CN and has been used since the early 20th century.

On May 15, the Kinghorn was closed to all railway traffic. Before it was shut down, two trains would travel on it each day: one from Thunder Bay to Longlac; and one in the other direction.

Micheal Gravelle, MPP; Maria Harding, Joe Comuzzi, MP;  officially open Lakeshore Drive.

It was a day of celebration for the Municipality of Shuniah Thursday, as it recognized the completion of work on both Lakeshore Drive and at the Isku Park Bridge.

The official ribbon cutting was held Thursday afternoon on the newly resurfaced roadway.

Over ten years of planning went in to making the construction a reality. It was made possible through COMRIFF funding, with the cost of the work split between the federal and provincial governments and the municipality.

Bruno's Contacting was the lowest bidder at  $4,152,365.99

Work is to begin May 15th with completion by Sept 16th.

The work will include:
        -re surfacing
        - partial pave shoulders on both   side of the road.

Work on the Wild Goose Creek Bridge is now completed fall 2005 including paving of the bridge deck. Our Manager of Operations must be commended on how well this project went.  This is the 1st phase of re development of Lakeshore Drive at a projected cost of $3 million dollars.

I will keep you informed as the project develops.

Isku Park Road Bridge

COMRIF Funding = $260,000

The governments of Canada and Ontario will each invest up to $130,000 to reconstruct Isku Park Road Bridge. The Township of Shuniah will contribute the balance of the total eligible project cost of up to $390,000.

Reconstructing Isku Park Road Bridge will make this route safer for residential and emergency vehicles in our community,

This project was complete the last week in August, 2006
